
The Student and Family Advocate Program (SFA) is a Black community-based program designed to support Black families and students as they engage with the education system. We offer advocacy support/services, capacity building, and culturally relevant navigational/research resources targeting Black children (ages 4-12) and adolescents (ages 13-19), including Black adolescents leaving care, and/or their families/caregivers in York Region.
The SFA program provides support that includes but not limited to:
Facilitate informational and educational workshops
Provide support to parent/guardians and students during meeting with service providers
Make referrals to community partners and provide resources
Develop learning tools
Offer mental health counselling
provide psychoeducational assessment support
